IBHRE Transitions to Continuous Certification Assessment Model
IBHRE Day Activities Encourage Ongoing Knowledge Validation
WASHINGTON, DC, February 8, 2022—Today, the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) announced that it will transition to a new certification maintenance process, IBHRE-C3 this spring. The program, which stands for Continuous Competency, Continuous Learning, Continuous Certification will allow IBHRE-certified specialist to maintain their IBHRE credential via a continuous competency assessment process instead of taking a comprehensive maintenance exam.
“IBHRE leadership acknowledges that in order to keep pace with the rapid movement of science and medical technology, specialists have to engage in a continuous learning process,” said Charles M. Love, MD, FHRS, CCDS, president of IBHRE. “IBHRE-C3 does just that. It enables certified specialists to stay abreast of the latest trends and scientific developments in their specialty area through ongoing scientific review,” he added.
An innovative approach to longitudinal assessments, IBHRE-C3 is a real-time competency validation process that helps practitioners remain current in their area of expertise while maintaining their certification. It is conducted in two-year cycles that no longer requires specialists to sit for the 10-year comprehensive exam. To be launched in March 2022, the completely virtual process requires IBHRE-certified specialists to successfully complete 12 online assessments, per certification, within a two-year cycle.
“The field of professional certification and credentialing has evolved tremendously, said Tracy Lofty Brown, MSA, CAE, chief executive officer of IBHRE. “As such, certifying organizations are adopting innovative ways to help practitioners remain current in areas relevant to their specialized field while fulfilling requirements to retain their credential.”
IBHRE-C3 will officially launch spring 2022. Certified specialists who prefer to engage in the continuous competency process opposed to taking the 10-year comprehensive exam must opt in to the program at IBHRE.org/IBHRE-C3.
