Georgia Board Approves IBHRE for Nurse License Renewal
IBHRE-C3 program meets continuing competency/education requirements.

June 18, 2025, Washington, DC – The International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners announced today that the Georgia Board of Nursing has approved IBHRE as a certifying body to satisfy licensure renewal. With this approval, IBHRE-certified Registered Nurses and Practical Nurses licensed in the State of Georgia can utilize completion of IBHRE’s continuous certification program, IBHRE-C3, to fulfill continuing education requirements outlined in O.C.G.A. § 43-26-9(b.1)(2).

“Nurses play a critical role in the delivery of cardiac care, and many have tailored their career to specialize in heart rhythm management,” said Tracy Lofty-Brown, chief executive officer, IBHRE. “This ruling by the GA Board confirms that IBHRE certification enhances the professional path for nurses by not only validating their expertise, but by serving as an avenue to maintain their license.”

Some 749 nurses worldwide have earned IBHRE certification—475 of whom are RNs. These certified specialists have earned one or more of the following certifications: the Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS), the Certified Electrophysiology Specialists (CEPS), and/or the Cardiac Device Remote Monitoring Specialist (CDRMS). IBHRE-certified nurses work in various capacities and in a variety of settings, including hospitals, universities, outpatient clinics, private practice, associations, and in the cardiac device remote monitoring industry.

This GA ruling allows RNs and LPNs to report continuing education obtained through diverse learning methodologies, including conventional classroom settings, online courses, professional journals, correspondence or independent study. Nurses certified by IBHRE engage in a fully virtual real time competency validation process every two years.

IBHRE is listed among other national certifying bodies in the ruling statement, Georgia Board of Nursing Acceptable Providers for Continuing Education for Registered Nurses or Licensed Practical Nurses Acceptable. IBHRE-certified nurses can fulfill renewal requirements via Option 2 of the Georgia Board Competency/Education Plan Options for Registered Nurses. Licensees must submit evidence of completing recertification during their biennial renewal period to CE Broker, the online continuing education management service provider.
