Mar 29, 2023, Washington, DC – The International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners today announced that Mr. Gareth Mackin, CCDS, has been selected to receive the Board’s 2023 IBHRE Ambassador of the Year Award. The award recognizes IBHRE-certified subject matter experts who are instrumental in advancing the organization’s mission. Gareth is recognized for his outstanding contributions to the Board’s educational and mentorship efforts.

“Our Ambassador of the Year Award puts a spotlight on highly dedicated individuals who have made a discernable impact on IBHRE,” said Tracy Lofty, chief executive officer, IBHRE.  “Mr. Mackin’s commitment has been instrumental in advancing key IBHRE initiatives.”

A specialist in cardiac devices and electrophysiology, Mackin is a Cardiac Scientist at Waikato DHB. He studied cardiac physiology at the University of Ulster and achieved first class honors in 2016. He has a distinguished career path having served as a cardiac physiologist at Kettering General Hospital, and later as a cardiac scientist specializing in cardiac arrhythmia management, cardiac devices and electrophysiology in 2019.

Mackin is one of IBHRE’s most impressive certified specialists worldwide scoring in the top 1 percent on the Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) examination in 2019. As an IBHRE Ambassador, he has since committed much of his time mentoring individuals who are pursuing IBHRE certification and serving as a presenter for webinars/seminars focusing on the value of IBHRE certification.  In addition, Mackin completed CHART Healthcare Academy’s Coaching Program and is a member of IBHRE’s Professional Resources Task Force.

“I am extremely honored to be chosen IBHRE’s Ambassador of the Year,” said Mackin, “IBHRE certification is the highest standard of clinical excellence in the field of cardiac devices and electrophysiology and being recognized by this organization is indeed one of the pinnacles of my career.”

Selected by IBHRE staff, approved by the Ambassador Chair, and recognized by the IBHRE Board of Directors, recipients of the IBHRE Ambassador of the Year are acknowledged for their valuable contributions to IBHRE, including work on committees, task forces, and special projects. For the seventh year, IBHRE has honored IBHRE-certified subject matter experts who promote excellence in the field of heart rhythm management by encouraging peers to learn, adopt and practice according to higher professional standards.  IBHRE Ambassadors, advise these practitioners on how they can advance their skill level through IBHRE certification, obtain professional resources, and gain access to mentoring opportunities.

Mr. Mackin will be recognized by his peers at the IBHRE Ambassadors’ Annual Meeting during Heart Rhythm 2023 (HR2023) in New Orleans on Friday, May 19, 2023.
