IBHRE Remote Monitoring Certification Earns ANSI Accreditation

June 6, 2025, Washington, DC – The International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners announced today that the organization has earned accreditation of its newest certification program, the Cardiac Device Remote Monitoring Specialist, or CDRMS. On April 28, the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) accredited CDRMS for a five-year period.  Earning accreditation from the largest multidisciplinary accreditation body in North America affirms that the CDRMS certification program adheres to guidelines set by the International Organization of Standards, ISO/IEC 17024:2012.

“Earning ANAB accreditation marks a major milestone for the CDRMS certification,” said Tracy Lofty-Brown, chief executive officer, IBHRE. “This accreditation verifies that the CDRMS program adheres to the highest global standards in credentialing.”

Launched in 2021, the CDRMS certification program validates the competency and skill level of practitioners who employ Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) in caring for patients with heart rhythm disorders. The certification process assesses the knowledge and expertise of technicians, nurses, and other allied professionals who remotely monitor cardiac implantable electronic devices, or CIEDs, and have adopted RPM as a routine component of their healthcare delivery process. Since the certification’s launch, some 260 heart rhythm specialists have earned the CDRMS credential.

As the field of cardiac device remote monitoring rapidly evolves, IBHRE stays abreast of developments in the field by conducting job task analysis studies. In a recent study, the JTA revealed important findings regarding the role, duties, and skill sets of practitioners who monitor CIEDs. Based on these findings, IBHRE's Device Remote Monitoring Test Writing Committee revised the CDRMS Exam Content Outline to reflect changes in the field.  These changes will be reflected in the 2026 CDRMS exam.

To earn the CDRMS credential, practitioners undergo a comprehensive computer-based examination, which is administered at testing locations worldwide. To maintain certification, IBHRE-certified specialists complete a continuing competency process every two years through the IBHRE-C3 program.
