IBHRE Announces Vanguard and Ambassador of the Year Awardees
Apr. 8, 2020, Washington, DC – The International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners today announced recipients of its 2020 IBHRE Ambassador of the Year and Vanguard awards. These awards recognize volunteers who have made significant contributions to IBHRE by investing their time and talents to advancing the organization’s mission. This year, IBHRE honors one of its pioneer founders, along with one of its most impactful mentors:
IBHRE Vanguard Award Recipient—Marleen E. Irwin
Marleen E. Irwin, FHRS, RCRT, CCDS, is the recipient of IBHRE’s 2020 Vanguard Award. Ms. Irwin is a Cardiac Device Therapist at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. Recognized as a leading expert in the device field, she is an accomplished author, having authored and co-authored over 30 manuscripts, and is a prominent international lecturer. In 1985, Ms. Irwin was appointed to the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology Exam (NASPExAM) Writing Committee. She has since served on numerous committees for the Heart Rhythm Society and the Canadian College of Respiratory Therapists, and is a practicing consultant specialist and director of Cardiosys Knowledge Transfer Group Ltd. In 2005, Ms. Irwin was presented with the HRS Distinguished Service Award and in 2006, she received an HRS Fellowship. She has served as the co-chair of the IBHRE Pacing Test Writing Committee since its inception in 1985, has been on the IBHRE Board of Directors since 2006, and is co-chair of the IBHRE Device Remote Monitoring Test Writing Committee, which was established in 2019.
Ambassador of the Year—Adam Jensen
Adam Jensen, RN, CCDS, is IBHRE’s 2020 Ambassador of the Year. Mr. Jensen is a Rhythm Management Training Specialist at Boston Scientific in Australia and New Zealand. He began his career as a Registered Nurse and has built a distinguished clinical career over the past 20 years. He has proven expertise in Cardiology, Critical Care, Heart Failure and Cardiovascular Implantable Electronic Device (CIED) management. A devout educator, Mr. Jensen has co-developed an IBHRE Certified Cardiac Device Specialist preparation program which is delivered annually to healthcare professionals across Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific. In his role as an IBHRE Ambassador, he has mentored and coached over 70 healthcare professionals in their pursuit of IBHRE certification.

IBHRE’s subject matter experts are an integral part of its mission to enhance the skills and knowledge of heart rhythm professionals. As such, they are instrumental in helping IBHRE accomplish its strategic goals of advancing skill levels in the field through IBHRE certification, developing innovative educational resources, and broadening mentor opportunities for heart rhythm examiners.
Offered for the fourth year, the IBHRE Ambassador of the Year and IBHRE Vanguard awards are selected by IBHRE staff and approved by the Ambassador Chair and are recognized for their valuable contributions on IBHRE committees, task forces, and special projects.
